Made It Through Mondays: When I Say I am a Christian

Posted by on Jan 21, 2013 in Words of Wisdom | 2 comments

A lot of times I meet people who say they are a christian, but I don’t really know what they mean. I am not saying that those people are not, in fact, a christian, not at all!!  I am just not sure if their explanation is the same as mine.

Just to be clear, when I say, “I am a christian”, this is what I mean………

When I say I am a Christian
I am not shouting I’m clean living
I’m whispering I was lost
Now I’m found and forgiven

When I say I am a Christian
I don’t speak of this with pride
I’m confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide

When I say I am a Christian
I am not trying to be strong
I’m professing that I’m weak
and need His strength to carry on

When I say I am a Christian
I’m not bragging of success
I’m admitting I have failed
and need God to clean my mess

When I say I am a Christian
I am not claiming to be perfect
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it

When I say I am a Christian
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my shares of heartaches
So I call upon His name

When I say I am a Christian
I ‘m not holier than thou
I’m just a simple sinner
Who received God’s good grace, somehow.

So when I say that I am a christian, what I am saying is, I don’t have a religion, I have a relationship, and it’s something I have to work at everyday, just like any other relationship. The only difference is, no matter how many times I mess up or fail at keeping this a good relationship, He is always there extending His grace, wanting to keep this relationship strong.

To tell you the truth, I don’t deserve it.

I don’t deserve His grace.

But He wants to give it and He will never stop.

Here are some of His graces (gifts) from the past week. I have been keeping track as part of Ann Voskamp’s #JoyDare of counting #1000Gifts.

#42 A gift of startling grace from God: A little girl that was kidnapped at school was found and brought to safety!

#50. A gift bringing prayer: Prayers of thanksgiving that my parents divorce has been finalized and both sides are at peace.

#52. A gift from God’s word: Ephesians 3:20

#56. A gift that might have never been: My marriage to my husband if God did not bring us back together.

There are so many more I could list and I can’t wait to keep counting!

Will you receive His grace today?
