Made It Through Mondays: I Have a Dream

“What is my God-sized dream?”

I pondered the question for awhile.

Well, I want to have a baby (like 6 months ago if it were my choice). I dream of traveling to Indonesia to see my little boy that I sponsor through Compassion International. I dream of having a nice big house, maybe on a farm, where I can host bible studies and have big dinners with family and friends and we can fellowship with one another and learn more about God. I want to be a part of something big. Something where I can leave my mark and know that God is pleased with what I have done.

But are all these things a God-sized dream?

Or are they an Erin-sized dream?

I don’t know.

I would like to think that God has children penciled in His plan for me. His word does say be fruitful and multiply.

I also think that He wants me to open my home to others. To provide a place where people always feel welcome and comforted.

Is it going to be a huge house on farm like I imagine? Probably not.

I do believe He does have a plan for me to be a part of something big too.

Will it be big in the way I perceive something as being big? Maybe.

Last July, I started this blog. It was something that I had wanted to for a long time, another God-sized dream of mine, shall we say. I wanted to create this blog as way to encourage and inspire others for Christ. I started off strong posting 3-4 times a week, but then I got frustrated.

Why don’t I have that many followers?

How do I get more people to read my blog?

This wasn’t how I thought it was going to be. This didn’t feel like a God sized dream.

I ended up having some time off around Christmas and I decided that I was going to make some changes to my blog. I would write on several different topics. A different topic to go along with the days of the week. I promised myself that I would really work hard and try to network more with other bloggers.

I would write more meaningful posts.

Join more link-ups.

Whatever it took.

I would take that step forward towards my God-sized dream.

I also decided to give this upcoming year a name. One word 365. A word that would summarize what I wanted to accomplish this year. No resolutions to eat better, exercise more, or quit bad habits. Just one word.

Live.

Live for Him.

Live in Him.

Live by Him.

It was not until yesterday, when I was sitting in church, that I knew for sure that I had chosen the right word. The message was about worrying less and trusting God more. There were two verses in particular that really spoke to me. I would like to share them with you.

“Seek ye first the Kingdom of God

and live righteously,

And He will give you everything you need.

So don’t worry about tomorrow,

for tomorrow will bring it’s on worries.

Today’s troubles are enough for today.”

-Matthew 6:33-34

That was it.

That was my God-sized dream!

To seek Him first and live righteously, and then He would fulfill my other dreams.

I need to stop worrying about how many people are following my blog and have faith in Him that He will bring more followers when the time is right. You know He has a way of doing things like that.  He is “The” fisher of men.

And in order for me to be a fisher of men, I need to first follow him and live for Him.

Every.Single.Day.

I am not saying that I am going to stop dreaming about having a baby, or being a part of something big. I am just going to trust in Him for those things and live right where I am now.

When I worry about my Erin-sized dreams, I can’t possibly follow my God-sized dream.

Who knows, maybe next year I will be writing about my amazing trip to Indonesia. {smile}

  1. I love the verse Matthew 6:33, those first few words are words to LIVE by, when we seek Him first, we can trust that the how and when of all our dreams will unfold as He wills, just keep seeking Him!

Your heart of an encourager is all part of His plan for you!
